The satellite Internet product beating Starlink at mines, farms, toll gates, and clinics in South Africa
While SpaceX’s Starlink has yet to launch in South Africa, Eutelsat OneWeb is gaining ground with local businesses and government. The OneWeb fleet comprises 648 satellites orbiting the Earth at around 1,200km in 12 synchronised orbital planes. By partnering with Q-KON, compliance with local telecommunications regulations is ensured. The Twoobii-OneWeb service, developed by Q-KON, combines the inherent advantages of LEO satellite technology with reliable service delivery, commercially viable models, and dedicated on-site support. The solution enables seamless integration with core networks, offers uncapped primary service profiles, and supports flexible billing options, including pay-per-use models for backup services.

Smart Satellite Ensures Seamless Payments Rugby Matches
In July 2025, the Springboks drew massive crowds with wins over Italy and Georgia, creating a festival-like atmosphere at stadiums. With food stalls, beer gardens, and merchandise stands, reliable POS transactions were essential, but LTE congestion often caused delays. To solve this, a leading South African bank partnered with Q-KON to deploy the Twoobii Smart Satellite Solution to ensure reliable, venue-wide connectivity. Over 400 POS devices used by food and beverage vendors were connected through the satellite network, enabling fast, uninterrupted transactions despite heavy LTE congestion. This robust solution ensured reliable cashless payments and enhanced customer satisfaction throughout the events.
