Between A Rock and a Hard Place (BARHP) Festival

Introduction

Between A Rock and a Hard Place (BARHP) Festival is a one-of-a-kind, 3-day electronic music journey set against the majestic Spitzkoppe Mountains in Namibia. This desert gathering brings together a dynamic mix of local and international DJs, delivering sounds from Afrotech, Afro House, Tech House, Techno, and more.

BARHP is more than just a festival, it’s an escape. A chance to reconnect, recharge, and celebrate life under Namibia’s wide-open skies. With delicious food, breathtaking scenery and camping, it’s a full-sensory experience designed to nourish the soul.

The Challenge

At the BARHP Festival in Namibia’s remote Spitzkoppe Mountains, food and drink vendors faced a significant challenge. Operating digital point-of-sale systems in an area with little to no reliable connectivity. The rugged desert terrain, far from major infrastructure, made access to a stable connection extremely difficult. With 25 local and 10 international bands performing across multiple days, the festival drew people form as far away as Europe who expected quick, cashless transactions at food and beverage stalls. The lack of connectivity risked long queues, lost sales, and a diminished experience for both vendors and festivalgoers, making reliable connectivity a critical need for the event’s success.

The Solution

To ensure seamless digital transactions at the BARHP Festival (25–27 April 2025), organizers partnered with Q-KON and FNB to provide reliable connectivity for FNB Speed Points. Using the Twoobii Smart Satellite Service, vendors enjoyed fast, stable point-of sale transactions throughout the event. This deployment again proved Twoobii’s ability to deliver high-performance connectivity in areas beyond traditional network reach, ensuring uninterrupted operations in challenging environments.

“Fast and secure transactions ensured that festival goers was served quick without any delays—another successful collaboration between Q-KON and FNB.”
Mike Rautenbach, client liaison and Field Engineer.
